BANGLADESH
ACN took interest in the children of Gopalgonj, Bangladesh, when it learned that support for regional vulnerable children from both NGOs and the government was very limitedfor this extremely poor, waterlogged area due to its remote location and lack of development. ACN entered into an agreement with a Bangladeshi NGO whereby it would provide the seed money necessary to run a vocational training program in tailoring for 25 teenagers who had lost one or both parents. ACN also initiated a small business loan project for widowed mothers to start small business initiatives in tea shop management, rice husking, crop cultivation, river marketing, and cow raising.
When the tailoring graduates all found employment and the widowed mothers paid back their loans in full so that additional loans could be made to other qualified mothers, ACN left Bangladesh.
